A community map for Ghana
Name the places maps miss.
Kaneshie First Light. Circle. The spare parts lane at Abossey Okai. If people around you know a place by name, add it here so the apps you use can find it too.

Three steps from “nobody can find it” to on the map.
Map providers cover main roads well. Local names are the gap. Each contribution closes a piece of it for every app built on Geocore.
Step 1
Search for the place
Type the name people actually use. We check the community map and the big map providers together, so you know straight away if it is already covered.
Step 2
Pin it and name it
Not there? Drop a pin, drag it onto the exact spot and give it the name you know. If a place already sits within a few metres, we ask whether you mean that one.
Step 3
The community confirms it
Your place is searchable right away. It is marked verified once three different people confirm it, two different apps agree on it, or the SmartHive team reviews it.
Happening on the map
All activityEvery addition and confirmation is public, so you can see what is already covered.
No contributions yet. The first place you add will show up here.
Why local names matter
In much of Ghana people give directions by landmark, not by street number. When an app cannot read those names, someone ends up on the phone explaining the way.
Deliveries
Riders find “opposite the Total filling station” without three phone calls.
Rides and errands
Pickup points match the names passengers and drivers already say out loud.
Help that arrives
Landmark names that responders and callers both recognise.
Open by design, careful with people
Public contributions
Places and their history are visible to everyone, including pending ones.
Names, not emails
Contributors appear by display name. Sign-in details stay private.
No homes
Private houses never appear on the public map.
Built into Geocore
Apps using the Geocore SDKs get community places in ordinary geocoding results, before any map provider is called. They can also let their own users pin and name missing places.
Geocore documentationconst hit = await geocore.geocode("kaneshie 1st light");
hit.provider; // "community"
// A user pinned a place your search missed
await geocore.contributePlace({
name: "Kaneshie First Light",
lat: 5.5667, lng: -0.2333,
externalUserId: user.id,
});Questions people ask
Who can see what I add?
Everyone. Every place and every contribution is public, including places still waiting for review. Your display name is shown next to what you add. Your email address never is.
Can I add my house?
No. Private homes never appear on this public map. Apps can still save delivery points for their own customers, but those stay private to that app.
What does verified mean?
Three different people confirmed the place, two independent apps submitted it, or a SmartHive moderator reviewed it. Verified places are offered to every app that uses Geocore.
What if someone adds something wrong?
Use Report on the place page. Places with enough reports are taken back for review or removed, and moderators can merge duplicates and correct names.
Does the same place get added twice?
Rarely. When a new pin lands close to an existing place with a similar name, it counts as a confirmation. A different name on the same spot is saved as another name for that place.
Know a place the map does not?
It takes about a minute. Sign in with Google or your email.
